Steel grades

Iron and carbon alloys are steel. But in steels, the percentage of carbon should not be higher than 2.14%. The basis of the existing steel grades is the chemical composition. therefore, steel is divided into carbon and alloy.

Carbon steel grades are:
1.low carbon
2.Medium carbon
3.high carbonaceous.
In low-carbon grades, the carbon content is not more than 0.25%, in medium-carbon grades - not less than 0.25%, and also not more than 60%, and already in high-carbon grades more than 0.60%. It is clear that its characteristics depend on the percentage of carbon content in steel.
Alloyed steel grades include:
1.low alloy
2.medium alloy
3. high-alloy steel grades. For the first, alloying elements should not exceed 2.5% content, for the second, "their presence" should be in the range of 2.5 - 10% of alloying elements, in the third - there should be more than 10% of alloying elements of steel.

The classification is also carried out according to the purpose of steel grades. Steel is divided into:
1.constructive
2.instrumental
3.with special physical properties.
Structural steels are often used for construction and machinery products. Measuring, cutting and stamping tools are made from tool steels. The steels of the third type have special physical properties, for example, these are pronounced magnetic characteristics, which are used appropriately.

Steel with special chemical properties is also distinguished, such as:
1.stainless steel
2.heat-resistant steels
3.Heat resistant steels, etc.

Steel grades, depending on the amount of harmful impurities, are divided into:
1.common quality
2.high quality
3.high quality
4. extra high quality. In the first case, no more than 0.06-0.07% of phosphorus and sulfur is contained, in the second case the indicator becomes about 0.035%, in the third case - 0.025%, and in the fourth - 0.02% phosphorus and 0.015% sulfur.

There are calm steels - cn, boiling steels - cp, semi-calm steels - ps, they differ in the degree of oxygen removal from the steel.
