In the week ended August 1, 2020, AISI reported that domestic steel production was 1,328,000 net tonnes and capacity utilization was 59.3 percent. For the week ending 1 August 2019, production was 1,846,000 tonnes, while capacity utilization was 79.3%. Production this week represents a decrease of 28.1 percent over the same period last year. Production in the week ending August 1, 2020 was up 0.6 percent from the previous week ending July 25, 2020, when production was 1,320,000 net tonnes and capacity utilization amounted to 58.9%.
Adjusted annual production as at August 1, 2020 at 46,102,000 net tonnes with a capacity utilization rate of 66.2%. This is 19.9% less than the 57,553,000 net tonnes in the same period last year, when the capacity utilization rate was 80.9%.
