The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) announced that in mid-April (April 11-20) this year, the average daily production of crude steel by large and medium-sized steel mills in China - all CISA members - was 2.111 million tons, up 0.4 percent from early April (April 1-10) this year.
In early April The average daily production of crude steel by China's large and medium-sized steel mills - all CISA members - was 2.104 million tons, up 5.6% from the end of March (March 21-31) this year.
Inventory levels of China's large and medium-sized steel mills increased during the period. As of April 20, finished steel inventories of China's large and medium-sized steel mills totaled 18.63 million tons, up 6.4 percent from April 10.
In mid-April, a slight increase in steel production by large and medium-sized steel mills in China showed that steel supplies to the market continued to rise, while inventories rose much more, signaling weak demand from the consumer side. However, ferrous metals futures prices moved in an uptrend and commodity prices, including iron ore, coking coal and coke, rose, pushing up steel prices during the period.
