Tenaris has announced that its coiled tubing company has manufactured and supplied the longest and heaviest Blue Coil® column to date with an external diameter of 2-5/8 inches for the American oilfield services provider CUDD Pressure Control.
According to the company, the new steel column weighs 88 metric tons and has been shipped to Oklahoma, where it will begin operations in the Mid-Continent region.
Tenaris said demand for longer columns of flexible tubing, increased load capacity, and increased durability continues to grow as wells get deeper and side shafts expand. In this context, CUDD Pressure Control has asked Tenaris to design and manufacture an exceptionally long Blue Coil® column with an external diameter of 2-5/8 inches for a special drum trailer to support extended span completion work.
The company stated that the order represents a major production challenge. because the string will exceed the established weight limits at the Tenaris facility in Houston. The volume of steel required for the order led to the need to expand the storage and winding capacity of the enterprise before the start of production. Despite the limitations associated with equipment and technological processes, Tenaris has successfully completed the construction of an 88-ton column. The company noted that this is the longest and heaviest heat-treated flexible pipe column with an external diameter of 2-5/8 inches that it has ever produced.
