German steel company Thyssenkrupp has announced that it has completed the sale of the remaining 15 percent stake in Italian stainless steel producer Acciai Speciali Terni (AST) to the Italian company Arvedi Group. The transaction completes the agreement reached in 2021 for the sale of the Terni stainless steel plant and its associated sales organizations in Germany, Italy and Turkey.
With the completion of the transaction, AST is now wholly owned by Arvedi. Thyssenkrupp retained a minority stake following the sale in 2021 to support operational cooperation with the new owner during the transition period.
The sale strengthens its liquidity position
The company said the transaction generated cash inflows in the double-digit range of millions of euros, further strengthening its liquidity position. Volkmar Dienstuhl, member of the executive board of Thyssenkrupp AG, said the completion of the sale marks another step in the group's efforts to optimize its portfolio and enhance its strategic focus. He added that the funds will provide additional financial flexibility to support the company's ongoing transformation.
The asset sale is part of Thyssenkrupp's broader strategic realignment under ACES 2030. The strategy aims to transform the group into a financial holding company consisting of independent businesses operating under a common corporate structure.
