Looking to the future, EUROFER expects apparent steel consumption in the EU to continue to grow, albeit at a slower pace, by 0.4 percent in 2026 to 135 million tons, and then increase by 2.2 percent in 2027 to 138 million tons. Meanwhile, real steel consumption increased 0.9 percent in 2025 after three consecutive annual declines and is projected to increase 1.4 percent in both 2026 and 2027, driven by restocking.
Demand from steel-using sectors is expected to gain further momentum in 2027, with the steel-weighted industrial production index projected to grow by 2.4 percent, driven by increased production in construction, mechanical engineering, and automotive industries. the volume of production.
GDP growth persists despite geopolitical uncertainty
