Between January and June this year, China's steel bar exports totaled 10.01 million tons, up 10.8 percent year-on-year, while wire rod exports totaled 1.36 tons, down 5.6 percent year-on-year, according to the General Administration of Customs of China (GAAC). At the same time, China's export volumes of angles/channels during the period amounted to 3.92 million tons, an increase of 5.7 percent year on year.
In June alone, China's exports of steel bars and wire rods amounted to 2.01 million tons and 250,000 tons, up 32.2 percent and 3.2 percent year-on-year, while June exports increased China's finished steel output grew by 6.6 percent year-on-year, while steel rod exports grew much faster, by 32.2 percent year-on-year. signaling the international market's ability to absorb long steel products amid demand from emerging markets including the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, and demonstrating the growing willingness of Chinese steel mills to take the lead in steel bar exports amid sluggish demand in China's domestic market due to the ongoing poor performance of the real estate industry.
