Anglo American's South African subsidiary Kumba Iron Ore has announced operating results for the second quarter and first half of this year.
Kumba Iron Ore produced 8.84 million tonnes of iron ore in the quarter, remaining stable quarter-on-quarter and down 4.4% year-on-year. Specifically, production at the Kolomela iron ore mine was 2.36 million tonnes, down 8.5% quarter-on-quarter and 16.4% year-on-year, while production at the Sishen mine increased 3.5% quarter-on-quarter and 0.8% year-on-year to 6.48 million tonnes. In the second quarter, the company's iron ore sales were 9.24 million tons, down 0.7% from the previous quarter and 4.7% from the same period in 2025.
In the first half, the company produced 17.68 million tons of iron ore, down 3% year-on-year, and sold 18.56 million tons of iron ore ore, which is 0.8% less than the same period last year. Specifically, production from the Kolomela iron ore mine was 4.95 million tons, down 15.6 percent year-on-year, while production from the Sishen mine increased 2.8 percent year-on-year to 12.73 million tons.
Kumba forecast production in the range of 31-33 million tons and sales 35-37 million tons throughout the year.
