Krakatau Steel declares force majeure after fire interrupts CRC production

Indonesian steelmaker PT Krakatau Steel declared force majeure after a July 19, 2026 fire at the continuous cold tandem mill (CTCM) production site at its Silegon cold rolling mill interrupted the production of fully hardened cold-rolled coils, local media reported. Krakatau Steel is still assessing the extent of the impact on production and has not disclosed the amount of production affected.

The company also did not provide an estimate of the financial losses caused by the fire or a timetable for restoring CTCM's production facilities.

Other operations around the cold rolling mill remain unchanged and continue to operate as normal. The facility can still produce soft CRC using a batch annealing furnace, as well as hot-rolled pickled and oil-coated steel using a continuous pickling line.

Krakatau Steel said it is carrying out the necessary maintenance work to bring the CTCM site back into service as soon as possible.

To maintain the availability of all-hard CRC in the Indonesian market, Krakatau Steel plans to collaborate with others domestic CRC manufacturers, while their own production remains. прервано.
