DMRL is a laboratory under the auspices of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) under the Government of India.
According to the license agreement under the Technology Transfer Program (LAToT), DMRL has transferred the technology for the production of DMR-249B steel sheets with a thickness of 8-30 mm to RSP and the Alloy Steel Plant (ASP) in Durgapur. These high-strength steel plates are used in specialized naval construction.
DMRL has also transferred the production technology of DMR-249A and DMR-249BK steel blanks to ASP, Durgapur, for use in the construction of warships and submarines.
Developed by DMRL, DMR-249B is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel designed for military shipbuilding. According to SAIL, this steel provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, which makes the hull structures lighter and more stable for warships, submarines and other warships, while reducing dependence on imports.
