Italian company Tenova has announced that American NEMO Industries has selected ENERGIRON Direct iron Reduction (DRI) technology, jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli, for the planned Ironworks I pig iron production project in Louisiana..
The annual capacity of the ENERGIRON zero reforming unit will be 2.5 million tons of hot and cold high-carbon DRI cast iron, which will be used to produce cast iron for electric melting in NEMO Industries products for the American and global markets. Tenova will begin preliminary engineering design as the project progresses towards a final investment decision, expected in December 2027.
The facility will include the HYTEMP hot DRI transportation system and will be designed to enable future integration of carbon capture and hydrogen utilization solutions as associated infrastructure develops along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
