Japanese steel company Nippon Steel Corporation has announced the completion of a new hot rolling line with a capacity of about six million tons per year at its Nagoya plant, which has strengthened the production system for high-quality flat rolled products, including ultra-high-strength sheet steel used in the automotive industry.
The new line, representing an investment of approximately 300 billion yen (about $1.9 billion), which includes the results of the company's long-term technology development activities and is equipped with what Nippon Steel calls the world's largest rolling mill with a load-bearing structure, providing significantly improved rolling and temperature control.
The investment will enable the company to meet the growing demand for lighter and more durable automotive materials in the face of increasingly stringent environmental requirements. collision safety regulations, as well as the wider adoption of electric vehicles, for which reducing vehicle weight is still crucial due to battery weight and range requirements. Nippon Steel has stated that ultra-high strength sheet steel can also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the life cycle of vehicles.
The existing hot rolling line at the Nagoya plant will be closed during the fiscal year. the year ending March 31, 2027.
