As part of the project, the previously combined casting and rolling line was divided into an upgraded foundry and an upgraded hot rolling mill. The new configuration improves the utilization of the smelter's production capacity and process efficiency, while providing greater flexibility in slab logistics and process management.

According to Primetals, the upgraded caster meets strict quality requirements for multiphase and high-strength steels, as well as siliceous steel grades used in electric vehicles, engines and generators. The production capacity of the plant is 2.3 million tons per year, and it can produce slabs with a thickness of 257 mm and a width from 900 to 1800 мм.

The casting machine is equipped with a Primetals DynaWidth mold width adjustment system, a DynaFlex hydraulic generator, and a CC Optimized second-level automation platform incorporating Dynacs 3D secondary cooling technology. In addition, EcoStar spiral rollers ensure dry casting and help maintain the temperature required for direct rolling, reducing energy consumption, eliminating the need for heating furnaces and reducing maintenance-related operating costs.

The modernization was completed in a short time with minimal disruptions, and production continues. Before installation, the main equipment was pre-assembled and tested, and individual existing components were integrated into the upgraded equipment. About 1,000 people worked at the facility during peak periods.
