American steel company Nucor Corporation announced today that it will expand production at its Nucor Towers and Structures plant in Crawfordsville, Indiana, pending permits. The additional investment of $105 million will increase production capacity for the production of transmission poles and related products supporting the country's electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The expansion will add more than 120,000 square feet of production space and is expected to create 100 new jobs with an average annual salary of $87,500. Currently, the company employs 328 people.
According to Leon Topalyan, Chief Executive Officer of Nucor, the expansion reflects strong demand in the utility market, as utilities across the United States are investing heavily in upgrading power grids and meeting the growing demand for electricity.
Nucor Towers and Structures was founded in 2022 after Nucor acquired Summit Utility Structures LLC, which operated a manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania. Subsequently, Nucor built new towers and structures in Alabama and Indiana, and is currently building another facility in Utah.
