Brazil's pig iron exports reached 339,700 metric tons in September, up from 244,400 tons in August, according to the SECEX Foreign Trade secretariat, part of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC).
The increase was mainly due to shipments to the United States and Europe, which increased by 12.4 and 31.6 percent, respectively.
In September, the destinations were the United States (152,500 tons at $463/ton), Europe (135,700 tons at $456 per ton), Mexico (25,700 tons at $465 per ton), Argentina (23,500 tons at $387 per ton) and Asia (2,300 tons at $564 per ton), all on FOB terms.
These prices were probably negotiated in July, when the price of base cast iron (BPI) was listed below $480 per ton, and the casting grade was above this level.
Supplies were carried out by producers from the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo (216,200 tons), Maranhão in the north (76,900 tons mt) and Mato Grosso do Sul (46,600 tons) in the central western region
