Vietnamese steelmaker VinMetal, part of Vingroup, has ordered equipment from Italy’s Danieli for a rail and section mill. The line, with annual capacity exceeding 700,000 tonnes, will be installed at VinMetal’s steel complex in Ha Tinh.
The contract covers the design, manufacture and supply of the equipment, as well as commissioning. The mill will produce steel for high-speed and urban railways, industrial facilities, bridges, ports and logistics infrastructure.
VinMetal aims to expand domestic production of specialized steel and reduce reliance on imports. The complex is located in the Vung Ang Economic Zone. Its initial planned capacity is about 6 million tonnes of steel a year, with a second phase that could raise it to 20 million tonnes.
