Polish producer Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) increased coal and coke output in the third quarter of 2026 despite price volatility and difficult conditions in Europe’s steel industry. Coal production rose 2.7% from the previous quarter, while coke output climbed 32.8%.
From July to September, JSW produced 3.32 million tonnes of coal, up 0.3% year on year. Coking coal production reached 2.87 million tonnes, increasing 3.9% quarter on quarter and 3.6% year on year. Coke production rose to 890,000 tonnes, 20.2% above the third quarter of 2025.
Coal sales totalled 3.55 million tonnes, up 19.5% from the previous quarter and 10.6% year on year. JSW sold 2.88 million tonnes of coking coal and 780,000 tonnes of coke. Internal sales reached 1.23 million tonnes, 33.7% higher than in the second quarter.
In January-September, JSW produced 9.77 million tonnes of coal, equal to 73.5% of its annual target, and 2.17 million tonnes of coke, or 66.5% of the full-year goal. The company said market conditions were shaped by fluctuations in coking coal and coke prices, as well as continuing difficulties in the European steel sector.
