Severstal and the Belgian Rutgers Group will jointly process coal tar. The new plant should be more efficient and less burdensome for the environment than the existing ones.
Severstal and the Rutgers Group will establish Rutgers Severstar, which will build a new plant in Cherepovets to process coal tar, a by-product of coke production. The Belgians will own 65.3 percent of the new company, while Severstal will hold the rest of the shares.
The new plant needs to be modern and highly automated, as well as more efficient with less environmental impact. The production capacity is 300 thousand. tons per year.
