World Bureau of Metals Statistics publishes ten months report

The global primary aluminum and lead markets registered a deficit during January-October 2016. On the other hand, the copper market recorded a marginal surplus during this period. This is reported by the World Bureau of Metals Statistics (WBMS) in its report for the first ten months of this year.

Aluminum

The global primary aluminum market recorded a slight deficit during the first ten months of 2016. According to the report, the market is reporting a deficit of 937,000 tonnes, compared to a deficit of 551,000 throughout 2015.

Primary aluminum production decreased by 523,000 tonnes during the period January to October 2016. The total stock of the metal dropped by 29,000 tons during the month of October this year. World production fell slightly - by 1.10% - during the reporting period. China's production, which accounts for more than 55% of the world output, is estimated at 26,182 thousand tons. Production in the EU-28 region decreased by 0.6%.

Copper

The world copper market recorded a surplus of 224,000 tons in January-October this year. It should be noted that the global copper market reported a surplus of 264,000 tonnes for the entire 2015.

The mine's global production from January to October 2016 was 17.02 million tonnes. Mine production increased by 7.2% compared to the corresponding period in 2015. Meanwhile, global production of refined copper jumped 3.9% from the previous year.

World demand for copper during January-October 2016 amounted to 19.45 million tonnes, which is significantly higher compared to 18.70 million tonnes in the same period in 2015. Chinese apparent consumption increased during this period and totaled 9.558 million tonnes. Demand from China accounted for just over 49% of global consumption.

Lead

The global lead market recorded a deficit of 64,000 tons in January-October this year. It should be noted that the global lead market reported a deficit of 14,000 tonnes throughout 2015.

World lead demand in January-October 2016 increased by 510 thousand tons. Chinese apparent consumption accounted for more than 39% of the total in January-October 2016 and reached 3553.4 thousand tons, which is 377.0 thousand tons higher compared to the corresponding ten months in 2015. Apparent demand decreased by 28.50 thousand tonnes in the United States.
