Working with people requires compulsory knowledge of the basics of psychology, and the legal field is no exception. Clients are only one side, on the other, you have to deal with law enforcement officers, each of whom requires an individual approach. The lawyer has to serve as a kind of bridge, a link between them, a buffer whose task is to soften all tough moments and normalize situations (sometimes quite acute).
When organizing the defense of the defendant, it is impossible to do with one (albeit thorough) knowledge of the law: one has to deal with human experiences, dramatic situations and a deep crisis in the human condition. A lawyer, as legal entity interested in the successful outcome of the case, passes everything through itself these nuances and emotions in order to convey information to the judicial authorities in a way that would position the court towards the client and tip the scales of Themis in his favor.
But any lawyer is first of all a person, and he cannot remain impassive, even in spite of many years of experience. But he is forced: after all, if he begins to show excessive emotions, no one will take him seriously, and the case will be ruined. Such impartiality comes at a high price: internal tension builds up, emotions require an outlet, and in no case should a nervous breakdown be allowed: clients, family and strangers will inevitably suffer from it.
The first thing a lawyer has to do with a client is to bring him to a normal state, bringing him out of depression, psychosis and other serious disorders. If it has already come to court, there is a traumatic situation that must be dealt with. That is why most of his work requires a thorough knowledge of such a scientific field as legal psychology : it is impossible without this build competent work to protect the ward.
Isn't it easier to fence off the emotional component with a concrete wall of indifference? Unfortunately no. A lawyer cannot do without subtle psychoanalysis: how to give advice to a person, if not to investigate his motives, intentions and living conditions? And this work cannot be sidelined (for example, with psychologists), otherwise close contact and trusting relationships cannot be created.
Psychology is not the only secondary specialization for a practicing lawyer. You need acting, and the skills of an orator, and communication skills, but still psychology takes the first place: after all, you have to work with people, and they are all so different ...
Why should a lawyer be a psychologist
