Isopropyl alcohol is transported in tanks, European-type barrels with a capacity of 212 liters, and in containers provided by the customer. In Russia, one of the companies dealing with IP is TC "April".
The product is irreplaceable in many branches of production and industrial activity - oil and gas, food, automotive, woodworking and other types. In printing activities, isopropyl alcohol is used to dissolve nitro, ethyl, and cellulose acetate. Before transportation, nitrocellulose is mixed with alcohol, in a ratio of 30% - 35% to 65% - 70% cellulose. Isopropanol is indispensable for the manufacture of varnishes and paints, it is used to dissolve paints and enamels based on nitro.
In many countries, it is the main raw material for the manufacture of acetone. Suitable for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, where alcohol is required for the synthesis of esters.
Isopropanol is required in the petrochemical industry:
- to remove paraffins from diesel fuel by means of urea solution;
- more suitable for dissolving many types of resins, essential oils, alkaloids with a synthetic component, and some other substances and compounds. The solubility of substances in IP is much higher than in ethanol;
- as an extractant in an aqueous solution with the addition of methanol, for the selective extraction of naphthenic acids;
- used as an additive in lubricants to improve their quality properties and temperature threshold.
Has an effective antiseptic effect, which is higher than that of ethanol. Therefore, it is used in chemical production as a substance for removing impurities and an extractant for clean things. It is widely used for the production of perfumery. It is used as a solvent in the recrystallization of substances, as well as a component that effectively displaces water.
Isopropanol is used as an antifreeze in the cooling system of a car, while it is diluted with menthol, as well as an anti-freeze liquid for a windshield washer. In the aviation industry we use it as an anti-icing agent and an additive in fuel. It is also used in woodworking, furniture production, for effective dissolution of varnishes, it removes varnish well from old coatings. Effectively dissolves some types of oils and adhesives.
We are interchangeable with ethyl alcohol when carrying out various technical processes, since the substances have the same concentration. Some types of chemical synthesis are an exception.
