Modern technologies of pipeline protection

Современные технологии защиты трубопровода

The pipeline is the main element of heating systems, with the help of which the coolant is transferred from the source to the consumer. During operation, it is constantly exposed to various kinds of influences. To avoid premature failure or interruptions in work, it is necessary to use modern methods and technologies of protection.

The main problem is corrosion. It can be internal and external. Most often, pipelines are subject to external corrosion. This is due to non-compliance with norms and requirements when laying pipes, as well as neglect of the basic principles of anti-corrosion protection during design.

pipeline corrosion protection is based on the use of special means depending on the internal or external use. For outside processing: pipes are coated with metal, paint and varnish or enamel substances. These include weatherproof paint for metal , which has a high resistance to adverse climatic conditions, as well as greases to reduce equipment wear. The need for internal processing is important to the oil industry. In this industry, pipes are exposed to high chemical activity from the inside, and therefore are more susceptible to internal corrosion. In order to avoid their rapid deterioration, inhibitor substances are introduced directly into petroleum products.

The second problem that threatens the integrity of pipes is the climatic conditions of operation. Sudden changes and low temperatures subject pipelines to sharp destruction and lead to interruptions in heat supply. Correct and reliable insulation can solve the problem.

The main material for thermal insulation is polyurethane foam. It allows to reliably protect pipes not only from heat losses, but also from external corrosion, because additionally protects against moisture due to its solidity. This material is 1 mm thick, consisting of closed gas cavities. The use of polyurethane foam reduces heat loss during transportation, reduces the number of accidents on the highway associated with freezing and ensures uninterrupted heat supply in conditions of extremely low ground temperatures.

A heating cable is also used. It can be installed both inside and outside. It helps protect pipes from freezing and maintains the required coolant temperature.
