VUS insulation (from the word: very reinforced) is a type of insulation when extruded polyethylene, composed of several layers, serves as an insulating material. The insulation process is as follows: first, an adhesive layer (primer) is applied to a metal pipe, which is a mixture of rubber and resin dissolved in gasoline - this layer protects the pipe surface from moisture and also contributes to the adhesion of the pipe to the next layer of insulation. The next layer of insulation is a four-layer tape consisting of a polyethylene base, two transition layers and an adhesive layer of butyl rubber. Next, a third protective layer is applied: also a four-layer polyethylene tape, the task of which is to protect this entire anti-corrosion structure from mechanical damage. In this third protective layer, the thickness of the polyethylene is increased and the thickness of adhesion is reduced.
Such a three-layer protection of pipelines is a very reliable and durable tool (pipes, without repair, can serve up to 50 years). This is the most modern technology and it compares favorably with the insulation of pipes with polymer tapes and bitumen.
