The world's largest integrated copper manufacturer Southern Copper Corporation (CSS) suggests that the growth of copper demand in 2013 will be more than 5%, including due to strong consumption in China and developing economies.
"The demand for copper has repeatedly suffered from adverse macroeconomic factors, but today, when most of these issues have been resolved in one way or another, the mood in the market has improved," says CSS financial director Raul Jacob.
In China alone, analysts expect an increase in copper consumption by 8.5% in 2013.
According to Mr. Jacob, in 2013, the proposal of copper will be limited by a number of structural factors, such as labor relations, technical problems and other issues negatively affecting production and processing.
So in 2012, CSS produced a total of 651 thousand 908 tons of clean copper, and in 2013 it plans to reduce production to 650 thousand tons.
Recall that futures contracts for copper with delivery after three months during trading on the London exchange of metals rose today by 0.7% - to $ 8346 per ton, which is a maximum since October 5. Last week, copper has risen in price by 3.2%, which became the most significant rise in price since September last year.
