The holding of extraordinary parliamentary and presidential elections in Ukraine is unlikely, but the country remains very unpredictable, and therefore anything can happen. This was in an interview with The Euraactiv by the expert of the European Policy Center in Brussels Amanda Paul.
“I heard that Yatsenyuk calls for early elections, but I do not think that they will take place. However, Ukraine remains predictably unpredictable.
I think that it would be much more useful if the leadership of Ukraine, together with opposition parties - an opposition, which, it seems, has not yet been consolidated to vote on any issue, has formed a high level of solidarity and support of the reforms, which the EU requires. ”
Commenting on the country's gas problems, Amanda Pop noted that so far the statements of Ukraine about the creation of a gas consortium with Russia are unfounded and are not supported by any specific actions.
“I do not think that at least something is completed on this front. Now you can hear many rumors about what Ukraine is going to do or are not going to do with Russia. I will only believe when I see signatures on paper.
However, we know that Russia exerts great pressure on Ukraine in this area. In the end, at some point something will have to be broken, but this point has not yet been achieved. And I do not think that the Ukrainian leadership wants it. They do not want to have any further complications from Russia in the energy sector, Mrs. Amanda emphasized.
