The EU insists that commitments must be respected
The Commission stressed that EU companies and exporters should receive fair treatment, predictability and legal certainty.
"As the largest trading partner of the United States, the EU expects the United States to fulfill its obligations set out in the joint statement, just as the EU fulfills its obligations," the Commission said. In particular, Brussels stressed that EU products should continue to enjoy the most competitive treatment, without raising tariffs beyond the previously agreed ceiling.
The Commission confirmed that tariffs function as taxes, increasing costs for businesses and consumers. He warned that unpredictable tariff measures undermine market confidence and disrupt global supply chains.
