According to preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey's slab imports totaled 133,163 metric tons in February this year, down 56.3 percent from January and down 65.6 percent from the same period last year. Meanwhile, revenue from these imports totaled $62.14 million, down 56.2 percent month-on-month and down 67.3 percent year-on-year.
In January-February, Turkey's slab imports totaled 437,879 tons, down 37.7 percent, while the value of these imports fell 41.9 percent to $203.90 million, both figures year-on-year.
Slab imports to Turkey - last 12 months
During the period, the largest source of slab imports to Turkey was Russia, which supplied 193,677 tons, a decrease of 41.3 percent compared to the same period last year. Russia was followed by Malaysia with 100,454 tons, which is 51.5% less, and Algeria with 69,067 tons.
