Moldova’s steelmaker MMZ, based in Rîbnița, could face disruptions to scrap procurement after its waste-management permit expired on October 20, 2026, without being renewed, local media reported. Customs authorities confirmed that transactions requiring the permit would not be authorized without an extension or a replacement document.
MMZ must obtain an integrated environmental permit. Its approval depends on inspections to verify the plant’s environmental documentation and operating conditions. The Environmental Agency said the permit could no longer be automatically extended.
The plant was confirmed to be operating on October 21. The expired permit puts trade operations and access to feedstock at risk, but no immediate production shutdown has been reported.
