Iron ore production in China decreased by 1.2 percent in January-March 2026

In the period from January to March of this year, China's iron ore production totaled 241.812 million tons, down 1.2 percent year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS).

In the first three months of this year, import prices for iron ore initially decreased and then increased. The lowest level of iron ore prices of $99/t for this period was observed on February 24, while the highest level of $111/t was observed on January 7, March 17 and March 20-23, according to SteelOrbis data.

In March alone, China's iron ore production totaled 79.639 million tons, which is 5.1% less than in the previous year.
