At its South African facilities in the quarter, the company's iron ore production in Coomba decreased by three percent year-on-year to 8.84 million tonnes, down 1.6 percent year-on-year, driven by a 15 percent reduction in Kolomela production to 2.6 million tonnes due to planned inventory reductions at the mine to make room. for storage during scheduled railway maintenance in the second quarter. This was partially offset by a five percent increase in Sishen production to 6.3 million tons due to improved raw materials and plant productivity. Regarding Brazil's Minas Rio iron ore project, Anglo American said its iron ore production in the first quarter was 6.36 million tonnes, down 10.3 percent from the previous year.
