Brazilian slab exports reached 687,500 tons in April, up from 297,600 tons in March, up 131 percent from export levels in March, according to data from Secex, the foreign trade secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
The monthly increase points to increased trade between Brazil, the United States and Europe as the main driver of the growth.
Ternium exported 222,800 tons at US$605 per ton to the US, while ArcelorMittal Tubarão shipped 169,500 tonnes at US$569 per ton to the US, 71,500 tonnes at US$492 per ton to France and 37,800 tonnes at US$505 per ton to Spain.
ArcelorMittal Pecem exported 40,800 tonnes at US$491 per tonne to Belgium, 39,800 tonnes at US$500 per tonne to Spain, 39,500 tonnes at US$469 per tonne to Poland, 30,300 tonnes at US$515 per tonne to Germany and 10 300 tons at $522/t to Mexico and 10,100 tons at $584/t to the UK.
Gerdau, in turn, exported 15,100 tons at $520/t to Switzerland.
And Usiminas imported 27,400 tons of slabs from Vietnam at $468/t.
