According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), in January-April this year, the production of HRC and CRC in China amounted to 70.49 million tons and 16.689 million tons, up 7.2% and 5.0% year on year, respectively.
In April alone, the production of HRC and CRC in China amounted to 17.598 million tons and 4.596 million tons, down 4.9% and up 8.8% year-on-year, while down 6.7% and 4.7% month-on-month, respectively.
HRC prices in China's domestic market rose in April as user demand improved during the traditional peak season and inventories built up ahead of the Labor Day holiday (May 1-5). According to SteelOrbis, HRC prices peaked in April at RMB 3,480/t ($509/t) on April 23, April 27, April 29-30, and the lowest level during the month was observed at RMB 3,370/t ($493/t) on April 2.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, steel sheet/plate exports from China in January-April this year was 20.06 million tons, down 16.6% from last year, 0.3 percentage points faster than the rate of decline recorded in the first three months of this year, according to Chinese customs authorities.
