US Steel has selected Midrex, a developer of direct reduction technology, to supply the HDRI/HBI MIDREX® plant with a capacity of 2.5 million tons per year for its new direct reduction iron (DRI) plant at the Big River Steel Works in Osceola, Arkansas, with the first production expected in In 2029.
According to Midrex, this project marks an important milestone for the North American steel industry as it will be the first DRI facility of its kind in the USA to be integrated with electric arc furnace steel production and supported by the domestic supply chain of DR. grade pellets
