Indian NMDC Launches $80 million Donimalai Iron Ore Mine Expansion Project

Indian state-owned mining company NMDC Limited has launched an expansion project at its Donimalai iron ore complex to increase production to 17 million tons per year from 15 million tons currently, which will entail capital expenditures of about $80 million, company sources said on Wednesday, June 24.

The expansion project at its Donimalai iron ore asset in the southern state of Karnataka will also involve the deployment of additional heavy mining equipment, the installation of a screening plant and the construction of a conveyor system to transport ore to the processing plant, the sources said.

The capital expenditures for Donimalai are in line with NMDC Limited's goal of achieving a combined iron ore production of 100 million tons per year. The company plans to produce 60 million tons in fiscal year 2026-27, compared with 53 million tons achieved in 2025-26.
