The Constitutional Court of Italy said on Tuesday that the ILVA metallurgical plant could continue its activities in accordance with the special law adopted by the Mario Monty government.
The Higher Court of Italy rejected the appeal of the prosecutors of the southern port city of Taranto in which the commander -in -the -clockwork, which insisted at the full stop of the ILVA plant until the causes of environmental pollution causes.
The Constitutional Court said in his statement that the objections put forward by the prosecutor’s office were “partially not justified, but partially unacceptable” for consideration in court.
The so -called "Law of Salvation Ilva", allowing the production of metal products during the reconstruction and modernization of treatment facilities, was adopted at the end of last year and was supported by the Italian congress. However, the Taranto prosecutor's office challenged the legality of this decision in court.
According to local residents, harmful emissions from the metallurgical plant have recently caused abnormally high levels of cancer and respiratory diseases in the region. Highlight rallies, the last of which took place this Sunday, called on the court and the prosecutor's office to close the accumulator.
ILVA belongs to the Riva family, some members of which are currently arrested. The factory introduced a temporary administration since July last year. In the metallurgical production of the city of Taranto, more than 20 thousand people are employed.
