On April 11, 2013, the World Steel Association (WorldSteel) released the short -term growth forecast of steel for 2013 - 2014, adjusted towards reducing the short -term growth forecast.
According to updated data, in 2013, growth in steel demand will increase by 2.9 percent to 1 billion 454 million tons after growth by 1.2 percent in 2012. In 2014, steel consumption in the world will increase by 3.2 percent and reach 1 billion 500 million tons.
Changes to this in October 2012 was commented by the Hans Jurgen Kerkhoff, Chairman of the Wordsteel Economic Committee:
"2012 was very tense for the global steel industry. The visible consumption has become growing the slowest pace since 2009. The main culprit of the decline was the Eurozone crisis that began last year and continuing in now. In addition, the weak growth in developing economies also contributed to the fall of world consumption of steel.
Nevertheless, at the beginning of 2013, the main risks for the global economy - the crisis of the eurozone, the shakes of the economy of China and the USA - were largely stabilized and now we expect the restoration of the world consumption of steel.
However, the situation in the financial markets remains unstable and the crisis in Europe is still far from permission. "
