Domestic sales also increased during this period, rising 11 percent year-on-year to 5.17 million tons.
Tata Steel said its automotive and specialty business recorded record volumes of about 0.9 million tonnes in the first quarter. He attributed the performance to the continued expansion of continuous annealing and galvanizing lines at the Kalinganagar plant, which helped to increase production of high-quality automotive steel products by 20 percent year-on-year.
Branded products and the retail segment also reported the highest ever sales volume in the first quarter, amounting to about 1.7 million tons.
Vertical sales of industrial products and projects totaled approximately 1.6 million tons, driven by demand from the value-added segment, while the company strengthened its presence in emerging sectors such as shipbuilding, containers, and data centers by adding customers, approving plants, and developing new grades.
Tata Steel Netherlands produced 1.55 million tons of crude steel and reported sales of 1.40 million tons in the first quarter.
