The plant's capacity is 620,000 tons per year, and it was built as part of Baoshan's plan to relocate its manufacturing facility in Shanghai and replace the old rolling equipment commissioned in 2003. The new finishing equipment supplied by Kocks will help the company produce high-quality, special-quality products with improved dimensional accuracy and more stable rolling characteristics.
The company will produce straight bars ranging in size from 20 mm to 100 mm for demanding processing industries. It is also equipped with automation systems that allow basic settings to be performed remotely from the control room, and digital tools enable faster setup and better coordination between production planning and rolling shop operations.
According to Cox, the first rod was rolled within the required tolerances, which provided a solid foundation for the next stage of commissioning. The company said that Baoshan will now focus on stabilizing production and continuing on-site training to maximize productivity and the availability of new investments.
