The issue was discussed during a meeting between Algerian Industry Minister Sifi Ghrib and Qatari Ambassador Abdulaziz Ali Al Naama, where both sides reviewed the progress of joint investment projects in the steel sector.
The focus on expanding steel production
The discussions were devoted to accelerating the implementation of the expansion project of the Algerian Qatar metallurgical complex. The expansion is intended to increase the production capacity of the plant and strengthen its contribution to the industrial development of Algeria.
According to reports, the expansion project is expected to double the annual steel production capacity from two million tons to four million tons, with an estimated investment of about $2 billion. However, the Algerian Ministry of Industry did not disclose these figures in its official statement.
AQS remains the flagship joint venture
Algerian Qatari Steel was established as a joint venture between Algerian and Qatari partners and has become one of the leading producers of long products in Algeria.
The Ministry of Industry stated that the expansion of the steel complex remains one of the priority projects within the framework of industrial cooperation between the two countries. No timetable for the completion of the expansion project was announced at the meeting.
