Iron ore imports to Turkey increased by 41.9 percent in January-May 2026

According to preliminary data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 1.12 million metric tons, which is 22.5 percent less than in April and 81.6 percent more year-on-year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated from these imports totaled $113.18 million, down 24.5 percent from the previous month and up 74 percent year-on-year.

In the period from January to May, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 5.25 million tons, up 41.9 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 39.1 percent to $549.20 million over both years. on an annual basis.

During the specified period, Brazil was the largest source of iron ore imports to Turkey with 3.43 million tons, which is 43 percent more than last year. Brazil was followed by Russia with 784,207 tons, which is 249.3 percent more than last year, and Norway with 664,233 tons, while no imports from Norway were registered in the same period last year.
