As part of the 21-month project, the existing thin slab production line, commissioned in 2008, will be equipped with two furnaces with walking beams, a powerful reversible roughing mill, heavy edge-cutting machines, cutting and descaling units, and the finishing mill, laminar cooling system and winder will be upgraded.
The upgraded mill will process slabs with a diameter of 230 mm and produce high-value-added products, including modern high-strength, high-carbon, microalloyed pipe and electrical steels, which will almost double the productivity of the existing enterprise.
Primetals will provide engineering services, key process equipment, and complete Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, including lane geometry monitoring, ski detection, and condition monitoring solutions.
This project marks the second conversion of the Primetals CSP plant to a conventional hot rolling mill, following the completion of a similar modernization project at Thyssenkrupp Steel's Bruckhausen plant in Germany in 2025.
