Italy's Danieli has announced that the three-strand caster modernization project at JSW Steel's Salem Works Indian steel mill has been completed following successful commissioning and operational testing.
The project involved replacing an old caster with a Danieli unit, meaning that all three casters operating at the site are now supplied by Danieli. The machine, with a nominal radius of nine meters and a strand spacing of 1,300 mm, is designed to produce square profiles with a diameter of 160 and 200 mm from a variety of steel grades.
According to Danieli, the upgraded caster resumed production and achieved target productivity within one week of start-up, with the new configuration expected to improve operational reliability, production consistency and quality products.
