China's rolled steel exports increased by 12.3 percent in January-July 2026

In the period from January to July of this year, exports of steel bars from China amounted to 11.93 million tons, which is 12.3% more than last year, which is 1.5 percentage points higher than the growth rate recorded in the first six months, while exports of wire rod amounted to 1.60 million tons. mt, down 5.2% year-on-year, 0.4 percentage points slower than the decline in the first six months, according to the General Administration of Customs of China (GAAC). In July alone, exports of steel bars and wire rod from China totaled 1.92 million tons and 240,000 tons, respectively, which is 20.9% more and 3.2% less year-on-year, as well as 4.5% and 4.0%, respectively. month-on-month, respectively, while Chinese corner/channel exports totaled 660,000 tons, up 0.4 percent year-on-year and 1.5 percent month-on-month.

In July, Chinese exports of finished steel products rose 2.9 percent year-on-year. Last year, while steel bar exports grew much faster, by 20.9 percent year-on-year, indicating demand for steel bars, which is largely driven by construction and infrastructure, the sectors continued to show strong growth, helped by infrastructure projects in emerging economies in Southeast Asia and in the Middle East.
