According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) on Monday, September 7, retail car sales in India, as evidenced by new registrations in all categories, totaled 2,423,201 units in August 2026, up 17.51 percent from last year.
The data showed that retail sales of passenger cars for the period totaled 402,398 units, an increase of 16.41 percent year-on-year.
Sales of two-wheeled vehicles totaled an estimated 1,714,610 units, an increase of 20 percent, while sales of three-wheeled vehicles totaled 122,281 units, an increase of nine percent year-on-year.
In August 2026, commercial vehicle sales were recorded at 90,769 units, the data showed an increase of 14.4% year-on-year.
