Federacci: excess production capacity and market protection remain key priorities of the EU steel sector

Federacci: excess production capacity and market protection remain key priorities of the EU steel sector

The Italian Steel Manufacturers Association Federacciai has once again stressed the need to strengthen the protection of the European steel market and eliminate the effects of global overcapacity. It highlights that overcapacity, energy competitiveness and investment conditions remain among the key challenges to maintaining Europe's industrial base.

Global overcapacity continues to be one of the main sources of pressure on the European steel industry. An industry that is also facing high energy costs, investment needs, and the transition to industrial production. Against this background, Federacci reiterated the need to strengthen trade protection instruments and preserve the competitiveness of European products.

Market protection is part of a broader challenge regarding Europe's ability to maintain a strong manufacturing base and steel production. Along with the pressure caused by Federacci, he also stressed global overcapacity and the need to create an enabling environment for investment.

This balance also directly affects the decarbonization process. According to Federacci, the transition to a more sustainable steel industry must be carried out without undermining Europe's production and industrial potential.

The overall message, therefore, is the need for coordinated actions at the EU level that can combine trade protection, business competitiveness, and industrial transition, while avoiding further weakening of Europe's manufacturing base.

These issues were discussed in Brussels during an event organized by EUROFER on the occasion of the association's 50th anniversary and the 75th anniversary of its founding. the anniversary of the Treaty of Paris.
