Acero Argentino (AA), Argentina's Chamber of Steel Industry, reported that the country produced 366,700 metric tons of steel in August, up from 377,500 tons in July.
On a monthly basis, HRC production increased by 15.6% to 199,200 tons, and CRC production increased by 28.4% to 105,100 tons, while long products decreased by 15.1% to 124,900 tons.
Compared to August 2025, crude steel production decreased by 1 percent, HRC production increased by 9.6%, CRC by 4.7%, and long products increased by 0.8%.
The AA said in a statement that industrial activity in Argentina continues to be driven almost exclusively by the energy, agricultural, and mining sectors, while construction, the automotive industry, and the large household appliance sector remain sluggish due to weak domestic consumption, leading to high levels of production capacity downtime in most of the market. industry.
The situation is compounded by the fact that import pressures, especially from China, are increasing throughout the value chain, driven by massive overcapacity in China and low prices, which have triggered anti-dumping complaints in markets around the world.
AA added that the US, EU, and UK continue to strengthen their trade protection mechanisms, including tariff increases, anti-dumping measures, safeguards, and countervailing duty measures, to shield their value chains from the influx of subsidized Chinese exports.
In this context, Mexico is conducting anti-dumping investigations into Chinese steel products, suggesting duties of up to 103%, while Brazil is already imposing the same measures of $700 per ton on certain steel products, which is equivalent to an anti-dumping duty of about 100 percent, which additionally protects the domestic industry.
