According to Secex, the foreign trade secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), Brazil exported 409,200 metric tons of slabs in September, down 30% from August, when total exports totaled 588,000 tons.
The decline was large-scale: shipments to the United States decreased by 18%, to Mexico - by 46%, and to Europe - by 68%. Insiders told SteelOrbis that production of slabs decreased from July to August, while production of rolled products increased, with fewer materials available for export in the following months.
ArcelorMittal Tubarão shipped 160,200 tons to the United States at a price of $593 per ton, 49,500 tons to Mexico at a price of $650 per ton and 30,100 tons to Germany at a price of $575 per ton. Ternium shipped 150,500 tons to the United States at a price of $650 per ton, while ArcelorMittal Pecém sold 15,500 tons to the United States at a price of $646 per ton and 3,400 tons to Mexico at a price of $714 per ton. All prices are on FOB terms.
Meanwhile, Brazil imported 78,600 tons of slabs at $529 per ton destined for Usiminas from Vietnam (48,400 tons) and Japan (30,200 tons), also on FOB terms.
From January to September 2026, Brazil exported 4.844 million tons of slabs, compared with 4.848 million tons for the same period in 2025. The almost constant sales volume strengthens Brazil's role as a major supplier to the commodity slab market
