According to Secex, the secretariat for Foreign Trade of Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Brazilian iron ore exports, excluding pellets, totaled 31.660 million metric tons in September, down almost 8% from 34.406 million tons in August.
The decrease in total exports and shipments to China compared to the previous month was similar and amounted to 2.746 million tons and 2.620 million tons, respectively, perhaps reflecting higher freight rates between Brazil and China, which led to the suspension of exports for some Brazilian exporters.
The main supply routes in September were Asia (28,850 million tons, including 25.025 million tons to China), Europe (1,349 million tons), South America (709,800 tons), Africa (492,000 tons) and Mexico (258,700 tons).
Meanwhile, pellet exports decreased by 17% to 2.279 million tons, while shipments were made to Africa (662,600 tons), Europe (448,800 tons), South Korea (349,100 tons), the United States (311,300 tons), the Middle East (248,600 tons), Trinidad and Tobago (171,100 tons) and Argentina (88,100 tons).
