India's Evonith Steel Limited (ESL) has signed an agreement with Sunsure Energy Limited (SEL) to purchase 30 megawatt solar energy for its integrated steel plant in the western state of Maharashtra, the company said in a statement on Tuesday, October 13.
SEL will supply electricity from its 120 MW solar power plant in the same state, the company said.
ESL stated that solar energy supplies will begin within a week and will help offset the plant's estimated carbon dioxide emissions of 34,700 tons per year. "As Evonith Steel grows to meet India's growing steel demand, we believe growth and sustainability must go hand in hand," ESL chairman Jai Saraf said in a statement.
SEL provides round-the-clock renewable energy solutions to businesses and utilities across India.
ESL is a manufacturer of cast iron, high strength cast iron (DI) pipe, hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils and galvanized sheet.
