Indian company JSW JFE Electric Steel, a 50:50 joint venture between JSW Steel and Japan's JFE Steel, is implementing a grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) project with three production lines ordered from the Italian company Tenova in 2025, according to the latest data from the equipment supplier. advertisement. The engineering teams recently met at Bellary to discuss technical interfaces and project implementation plans.
Vijayanagar's potential planned production volume is 100,000 tons per year
The partners' expansion plan will double Vijayanagar's originally planned capacity to 100,000 tons per year, with full production scheduled for 2027. In addition, the Nashik plant's capacity will increase fivefold from 50,000 tons per year to 250,000 tons per year through phased commissioning in 2028-2030, bringing the combined capacity to 350,000 tons per year to serve India's growing transformer and energy infrastructure market.
Three production lines to ensure high-quality production
Tenova supplies lines for annealing and etching, decarbonizing and coating, as well as for leveling and coating, which makes it possible to produce products with improved magnetic properties and lower core losses. The contract was concluded as part of a separate project involving two decarburization and coating lines in Nashik.
According to the Tenova technology description, annealing and etching prepare the strip for cold rolling by changing its microstructure and removing scale, while decarburization reduces the carbon content to stabilize long-term magnetic characteristics before applying a magnesium oxide coating. During final leveling and coating, electrical insulation and controlled heating and tension are applied to improve flatness and relieve internal stresses.
